In
their early years, students may be involved in such regular
homework activities as:
collecting pictures, objects, related to colour studies,
etc.
phonemic
awareness activities – finding pictures of the sound
of the week.
language
activities
maths
revision
designing
and making
home
reading from class readers, books from the school library/local
library.
Kindergarten
students have no formal homework but may participate in the
above activities.
Year 1
and Year 2 children should spend approximately 15 minutes
4 nights per week doing homework or approx 1 hour per week.

Guidelines Primary School (Years 3-6) |
As students
progress through primary school, they should increasingly
work independently on their homework. Activities may include:
completion of class work
revision
activities related to English and Mathematics.
home
reading of books from the school library and local libraries.
research
observation
and data collection.
practicing.
designing
and making.
Year 3
to 4 children should spend approximately 20 minutes, 4 nights
per week doing homework or approx 1½ hours per week
including time on personal reading.
Years
5 to 6 children should spend approximately 30 minutes, 4 nights
per week doing homework or approx 2 hours per week including
time on personal reading.
Homework
should not be set for weekends or school holidays.
When research
assignments and projects have been set in Years 3 to 6, regular
weekly homework should be modified to ensure time guidelines
above are maintained.
